3 ways to detox right now

Three ways to detox right now
In my family we celebrate Christmas both on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day – and let me tell you- we take our food very seriously.

We had a wonderful Nochebuena celebration on Christmas Eve last week where we enjoyed a traditional Cuban Christmas meal – roasted pork, yuca, sweet plantains, rice and black beans.

And wine.

And flan (dairy-free, in case you were wondering).

And Cuban coffee.

Then on Christmas day, we enjoyed homemade tamales, fried turkey (fried in avocado oil, FYI), ham, gluten-free stuffing, and goodies galore.

We had a great time with lots of joy, laughter, and memory-making but after all of the feasting I was definitely ready to reset a bit.

If you over-indulged on Christmas or feel like you just want to clean house a bit before the New Year, then do these 3 things today:

Sip on filtered water infused with lemon, lime, and orange:

Lemons, limes, and oranges contains d-limonene, which has been shown to activate enzymes in the liver that are part of the Phase 1 and Phase 2 detoxification processes. These processes take compounds present in the liver that are toxic to cells and convert them to non-harmful or less harmful versions.

Steam a big basket of brassica vegetables and enjoy (with olive oil and sea salt!)

Brassica vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, and kale) are detox fuel to your liver. They help carry out Phase 1 and Phase 2 detoxification processes in the liver and and also have cancer-fighting antioxidant properties.

Add rosemary to your meals:

Rosemary enhances your body’s bile flow which is necessary for fat metabolism as well as detoxification. Add a couple of branches of rosemary to any meat or vegetable dish that you are cooking for a great infusion of flavor and detox support.

Don’t wait for the New Year to do these simple things. They only take a few minutes and your liver will thank you for it!
